Regional Economic Development: Gateway Economic Development

Economic development in our region is driven by Gateway Economic Development, a collaborative initiative funded by five key partners:

  • Town of Moosomin

  • Rural Municipality of Moosomin No. 121

  • Town of Rocanville

  • Rural Municipality of Rocanville No. 151

  • Community Builders Alliance

The Gateway initiative reflects a shared commitment to growth and regional cooperation.

Rocanville, located just 30 km north of Moosomin, plays a key role in the local economy. As the site of Nutrien’s major potash operations, Rocanville is a hub of mining activity and a growing residential and service centre. Its addition to the Gateway Economic Development partnership strengthens the region’s ability to support business development and attract investment.

In 2022, the importance of focused economic leadership led to the hiring of a full-time Economic Development Officer.
Casey McCormac, born and raised in Moosomin and a graduate of Athabasca University with a Bachelor of Commerce, leads the region’s economic development efforts.

Casey’s mandate includes:

  • Supporting the growth of existing local businesses

  • Attracting new businesses to the area

  • Helping individuals launch entrepreneurial ventures

  • Connecting businesses and individuals for mutual benefit

She works closely with the Gateway Economic Development Committee, composed of representatives from each of the five funding partners.
