South Prairie Residential Design is an architectural drafting & design firm founded by Jay Hamilton. SPRD has recently completed its new architectural design studio with office space and a full showroom on Main Street in Moosomin.
SPRD’s typical clients include builders, homeowners, and developers. They offer a range of design services including custom home design, renovation plans, engineering, 3-D renderings, and interior styling.
The business’s growth has been exponential. “When we started, I was doing about 10 projects the first year. Now, six years later, we do over 125 projects a year including anything from custom homes to commercial buildings to renovation.”
“We’re really happy with the economic growth that Moosomin has shown over the past four or five years and we felt very comfortable investing in the local economy.”
“We felt secure that we would see growth and have good exposure in the Moosomin market. We have built great relationships with our clients in Wawota and in the surrounding area. Now we would like to hopefully continue that in Moosomin and north of Highway 1 and gain some new clients and expand our service area,” says Hamilton.

Borderland Co-op has recently completed its new Administrative Office on Carleton Street in Moosomin.
The 2-story 9600 square foot building was necessary to accommodate the substantial growth Borderland has seen in the area over the past 14 years.
“Our business has more than quadrupled in those 14 years” explains Jason Schenn, Borderland’s CEO. “To service this expansion our Administrative staff has grown from 3 to 15 employees over this period. This new building will accommodate that expansion, with capacity for further planned growth.”
Borderland serves approximately 7,500 members from Moosomin to Whitewood, and Rocanville to Maryfield. This market has been very good for Borderland, explains Jason. The area is vibrant, growing and enjoys a diversified economy.

Eastgate Business Park currently has 17 acres available for commercial development. This premier development is located near the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and East Access Road in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. The property is divided into 3 larger parcels but can be sub divided as required.
These parcels are fully serviced and accessible by a new paved road.
There is an adjoined 5 acre parcel of land (separately owned), that increases the total available acreage to 22.
The land is available for a variety of uses, including light industrial, commercial, retail or residential.
Tyler Thorn, Principal of the Eastgate Business Park comments on The Town of Moosomin:
“I believe Moosomin is a great destination for a number of retail/commercial businesses. We have a strong and diversified economy with agriculture, Potash mines, Power generation, pipelines and some oil and gas. Due to the geographic location of Moosomin, and the new Southeast Integrated Care Centre, it has become a “Hub” for South East Saskatchewan. We have seen significant growth and investment in the retail / commercial sector over the past decade.”
“This East Gate Business Park, located near the intersection of Highway #1 and Moosomin’s East Access Road, has been great for our business. Our neighbours, Co-op Gas bar / C-Store and Tim Horton’s draw an incredible amount of traffic off the #1 highway. The highway itself has traffic flow of 5000 vehicles per day.
“The Town of Moosomin has been great to work with on our development. They have some incentives in place for new commercial development. They are working on some infrastructure which will open up access from Eastgate Park to the Town’s Hotels and Restaurants along Lake Ave, which I believe will only increase traffic through Eastgate … every business owner wants traffic past their front door!”

Mazergroup has now moved into a new building two and a half times the size of what they were currently in on Highway 8. The 25,000 square foot building is located on the North Service Road facing the Trans-Canada Highway and officially opened in 2018.
“It was a long time coming,” said Bob Mazer, President and CEO of Mazergroup. “We did do our due diligence, and that’s why it took as long as it did. I’m ecstatic with the way the facility came out. I’m ecstatic about the location facing Highway 1. I’m very happy with the new building, and I think our staff is going to blossom. It is a nice place to work for our employees, and it should help attract employees.”
Besides greatly enlarging the dealership, Mazergroup has added a NAPA Auto Parts Store to the new dealership. “It brings people in the door who would not normally be coming to the building, and it helps with our staffing levels, so we can have five or six or seven parts people, which helps spread out the weekend work during harvest. There’s a huge benefit there. We’re not affecting people’s home lives by asking them to work every second weekend. That’s critical. We have to look after our people so they can have good home lives and it’s not impacted by their work.” Now that the building has been completed, Mazer said the focus is on building up the business in Moosomin. “We’ve gone from one to three salespeople in Moosomin, our regional manager is coming here two days a week, and our VP of sales and our director of sales are both spending some time out here helping out, and now it’s just a matter of being very diligent,” he says. “If someone’s looking for something, we need to be able to get it for them, and we can now, because we have some space.” Mazer told the crowd at the grand opening that he is proud to run a family business. “It’s a family business,” he said. “The Mazer family are the majority owners of Mazergroup, yet we have twenty-some shareholders, and about 98 per cent of them are within our organization. All of our executive are shareholders. We really are very proud to be privately owned. We’re proud to be involved with our communities, like Moosomin, and we will continue to be involved in our communities. We do not move money to Vancouver, or Calgary, or Toronto—it stays within our communities. We’re very pleased to be here in Moosomin, and we’re here for the long term.” “We came here about 14 years ago and we didn’t know at that time what to expect, and lo and behold, 14 years later here we are in a twenty-some thousand square foot facility. We didn’t build it for us. We built it for you—the community and the customer base. We need to earn your business. We always will work towards that. We understand that we have to earn that business.”
“Moosomin has become a strong agricultural hub and the business environment in general is very positive. This is a great market for us and we’re well positioned to share in the region’s growth.”

Since their opening in 2018, Moosomin Dodge has taken off as a huge player for Dodge dealerships. The idea of expanding further into South – Eastern Saskatchewan was appealing to many as our communities began to grow, and this is when Olympic Auto Group stepped up to take charge of our dealerships. This of course was also with the help of, and alongside the Whitewood Dodge dealership who had been running successfully for years previous. The expansion idea has turned out to be triumphant by bringing in customers from all surrounding areas for the various departments they are able to provide. Currently employing 11 staff members, they offer sales, service & parts, and car detailing. Moosomin Dodge is running 6 days a week to accommodate the growing business and to continue meeting the expectations they’ve upheld since their opening.
Moosomin is a vibrant and diverse trade area. We are very pleased to be part of the community!
